Starting in 2026, it is planned to change the admission process to universities. This statement was made by the Minister of Education and Science Valery Falkov during a government meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. "Specifically for the pedagogical sphere, where subject teachers are trained, a mandatory Unified State Exam on the future professional profile of teachers will be introduced," Falkov said.
In September last year, the Ministry of Education and Science published a draft list of entrance exams to universities for public discussion. According to this, in addition to the mandatory exam for teachers, specialized mathematics was replaced by physics for admission to technical universities, and foreign languages were excluded from the list of tests for applicants in business and economics. Initially, the changes were to be made during the next admissions campaign, in the summer of 2025.
But parents, school and university teachers expressed concern that children would not have time to prepare for the exams. And the department agreed to introduce changes gradually.
