Man accused of blowing up restaurateur's car in Moscow arrested for two months
A man has been arrested in Moscow for two months on suspicion of blowing up a restaurateur's car.
The Cheryomushkinsky Court has arrested a businessman accused of blowing up a car in Moscow. Vitaly Slobodjanik from Belarus has been detained until December 15.
The case materials indicate that his involvement in the crime was confirmed by CCTV cameras, witnesses and other evidence.
"According to the investigation, Slobodjanich committed the attempted murder in a typically dangerous manner, based on personal hostility towards the victim, who was his business partner. "He realized his intentions and placed an explosive device on the hood of his business partner's car," the court said.
The lawyer asked the court to place his client under house arrest, arguing that there was no substantial evidence of his guilt. Vitaly Slobodjanik refused to testify, citing Article 51 of the Constitution (the right not to testify against oneself). The defense claimed that the case materials contained printouts from a video camera from the crime scene, which showed a car belonging to Slobodjanik. However, witnesses did not confirm the presence of the man, and no traces of explosives were found on his body or clothes, Kommersant writes.
The incident occurred on the morning of October 15 on Profsoyuznaya Street. A homemade device installed in the car of restaurateur Viktor Mishachev exploded, injuring him and two other people, including a child.
Slobodjanik is charged under Part 3 of Article 30, Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Attempted murder of two or more persons"). He does not admit his guilt.
