St. Petersburg deputies discussed preparations for tick season in advance
The deputies decided to discuss the topic of tick bites in advance. It seems they are preparing the sleigh for the summer. Moreover, the legislators were surprised to learn that the last season is not over yet. It is warm here in October, and ticks have no time to sleep.
Irina Kataeva, head of the epidemiological surveillance department of the Rospotrebnadzor department, said: “The 2024 tick-borne encephalitis epidemic season began on March 28. And as of October 14, more than 18 thousand people sought medical attention for tick bites, which is actually 8% less than in the previous similar period.”
Rospotrebnadzor counts ticks in the fall, and statistics are not inclined to panic, which cannot be said about its representatives. In 2021, 13,000 people were bitten, compared to more than 16,000 in the previous year, and the number of people with encephalitis and borreliosis is also increasing, but the figures are expressed in double digits. Lawmakers were interested in what could be done to reverse this trend.
Larisa Solovieva, head of the department of the outpatient medical organization of the Health Committee, said: "For us, prevention is vaccination. In principle, there is a distinction between the first vaccination and revaccination after a year. "We always warn that the last vaccination should be two weeks before the start of the epidemic season."
The second option for prevention is to treat urban areas with various compounds. The sanitary doctor proudly noted that in all children's health institutions, ticks are pressed into nails. They spray it there first. However, it later turned out that not all parks and squares will be covered by the solution.
They could have discussed the fate of ticks in Whitehall in detail, but suggested a short break to allow the county to draw up a list of all the sites to be treated. Both the committee and the department considered changing their approach to spraying.
