Japan Doubles Car Exports to Russia

October 18, Vladivostok, FederalPress. According to a report from the Japanese Ministry of Finance, Japan more than doubled its car imports from Russia in September 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. Last year, the growth rate was 132.2%. Supplies of spare parts and components also increased by 21.3%.

According to the Japanese Ministry of Finance, Japanese car exports to Russia in September 2024 increased by 132.2% compared to the same period last year, while spare parts shipments increased by 21.3%. On the other hand, the number of imported cars sold in the first half of the fiscal year (April-September) decreased by 11.3%.

The press service of the Vladivostok Customs reported that in the first quarter of 2024, Russians imported 37,322 cars from Japan, and in the following two months their number exceeded 55,000.

After Japan banned the export of cars with an engine capacity of 1.9 liters or more, electric vehicles and hybrids to Russia in August 2023, the number of imported cars began to decline. The most popular Japanese cars in Russia have an engine capacity of 0.7 to 1.8 liters, including Honda Freed, Toyota Corolla, Honda Fit, Honda Stepwgn, Toyota Wish and cars belonging to the kei car class. According to analysts, Japan plays a leading role in the structure of Russian car imports.

In Russia, the fee for recycling cars with an engine capacity of 1 to 2 liters was raised from October 1. This only applies to vehicles imported into the country for resale. For individuals, the recycling fee remains the same. A new car costs 3,400 rubles, a car older than 3 years - 5,200 rubles. These cars are imported into Russia with one condition: This means that you cannot sell it for one year. Experts note that the increase in the recycling fee may affect the structure of the used car market.

Earlier, FederalPress wrote about how the increase in recycling fees changed the domestic automobile market.
