Russian Armed Forces officer's car shot at in Moscow region - everything we know

In the Moscow region, a Russian officer's car was shot at. He died while driving, right behind the wheel.

The district prosecutor's office reported on Telegram: "The body of a 44-year-old man with a gunshot wound was found in a car in the village of Melenki in the center of Solnechnogorsk today at about 9 a.m." channel.

RBC reported that Nikita Klenkov was driving. He returned from the territory of the SVO less than a week later. According to Mash, at the time of the murder he was an officer in the Russian army and held the position of deputy commander of one of the troops. Colleagues from MSK1.RU tried to contact his wife Elena, but without success.

The Telegram channel reported that he was killed by three shots fired into the side window of his car. A total of eight bullets were fired into the car. The SUV itself was moving along the road at the time. The vehicle continued moving after the driver died and crashed into a fence.

It is believed that the criminal was waiting for him. When the police car entered the village of Melenki (Solnechnogorsk district), unknown persons opened fire. Perhaps he was also driving the car and shot at the policeman from the window. The base reported that the shooter immediately disappeared. The security forces announced an "interception" plan.

Investigators and forensic experts are working at the scene. They are examining the victim's car and questioning witnesses.

Following the incident, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under two articles: murder by mercenaries (paragraph "z" of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and illegal arms trafficking (Part 1 of Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The first provision provides for punishment of up to life imprisonment.
