"The child screamed from the sharp pain." In Tyumen, a 4-year-old girl fell from a height

During the warm season, news feeds regularly shock city residents with reports of a small child falling out of a high-rise window. In some cases, this ends in a terrible tragedy, in others – the opposite. But one way or another, such situations shock everyone. One of such practical examples was shared by paramedic Larisa Masson. This story is based on the recollections of paramedic Marina Kettman and doctor A.

"The child fell to the ground, leaning his buttocks against the windowsill."

It is believed that children under three years of age still lack an understanding of cause and effect, which leads to accidents and poisoning. Children aged 5–7 years already have an understanding of the world around them, but do not realize the consequences of their actions when something is unfamiliar.

And under the window, the children were still happily playing. The window! Of course! The light tulle curtains, hanging from the curtains and fluttering in the wind from the open windows, seemed to beckon with their fluttering edges. The child pushed the curtain aside and climbed onto the windowsill of the third floor of the multi-story building. She put her leg on the other side of the window frame, paused for a moment, and then slid down...

“I couldn’t hold back any longer and screamed in pain.”

Just a moment ago, everything around me was quiet, serene, and peaceful. And then the movement began. At the right moment, an ambulance was called and the search for the child's parents began. INCORRECT: Although this information was brought to public consciousness several times, the child was taken away from the place where he was injured. A sympathetic grandmother and other adults began to try to lift the child to her feet. The girl could no longer stand, she was carried to a bench, she was screaming in pain.

It was lunch time for our team. We had already eaten and went to wash the dishes. And suddenly the tablet lying nearby, which was supposed to mark us for lunch in 5 minutes, screamed in a bad voice (but the sound is unpleasant, to turn it off, you need to read the incoming call).

We were indignant at having missed our lunch break, but after figuring out the reason for the “fall from a height,” we dumped all the containers, including the baby, into the sink and ran to the car. Hurry, hurry! The driver, drifting in place, was driving at high speed, not even accelerating. The blue light of sirens and beacons filled everything around. People, trees, and lights flashed so fast that they were almost indistinguishable. And a few minutes later, we flew into the yard next to the house indicated on the sign.

Thanks to the efforts of the neighbors, the injured child was waiting for us on a bench near the house opposite. Many years of working in ambulances taught me to remain calm when communicating with adult patients in critical condition. Otherwise, your nervous system will break down if you start allowing someone else's pain and suffering to pass through you completely. This does not affect the quality of work, quite the opposite. You just look at the suffering person, find the reasons for his poor condition and act according to the behavior algorithm that has been debugged over many years of work and practice. Communicate clearly and to the point, with a cool head.

However, children and children are completely different. Always through the soul, always by heart. Of course, this is impossible, but when I have a child, I unconsciously transfer the situation to myself and think how I would act and how I would feel in such a situation...

We jumped out of the car and ran to the child, the mother of the grieving helpers who had carried him from the crash site. Trying to speak as calmly as possible so as not to frighten the girl with our appearance, we examined her, administered anesthesia, and then laid her on the shield. The shield was placed on a stretcher, and the stretcher was pushed into our car.

At that moment we heard a loud female scream. The neighbors came to the apartment where the girl had fallen. They woke the mother by knocking on the door and told her what had happened. She ran to her daughter, but we carefully held her back so that she would not grab the crippled child.

After the anesthesia and sedation, the girl calmed down, the back pain decreased. There were no visible injuries or damage to his head or face, he had full control of his arms, but his legs... he couldn't move them or lift them. This scared her very much, so we gave her some medicine to calm her down. Then, with the driving skills that only an ambulance driver has, they rushed, but carefully and gently, to take the little one to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with skeletal injuries and a fractured lumbar spine.
