Young assistant of telephone scammers from Primorye sentenced
In Dalnerechensk, a 19-year-old guy who worked for a telephone scammer was convicted in a criminal case of fraud (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), IA DEITA.RU notes the allegations of the charges. Primorsky regional office.
A young man from Lesozavodsk took part in the implementation of the criminal plan "Your relative is in trouble". The victims of the fraudsters were four pensioners aged 67 to 89. The total amount stolen by the criminals exceeded 600,000 rubles. In this plan, the young man acted as a courier who came to the victim for money, which, as his relatives claimed, he needed to solve a serious problem. The stolen money has already been confiscated by the state, and the couple's mobile phone was also confiscated as a weapon of crime.
The criminal group was organized in October 2023. The criminal case against the remaining fraudsters was separated into a separate proceeding (at least, it is unknown whether it will be possible to confirm their identities; it is more difficult to identify the culprit of such a scheme than the direct perpetrator, namely the courier).
The Dalnerechensky District Court sentenced the young man to four years of imprisonment in a general regime colony. They must also compensate the elderly women for material and moral damages. The decision has not yet entered into legal force.
Meanwhile, a new method of telephone fraud is gaining popularity in Russia. This is a phone from a "cellular operator" that offers a specific "gift" SIM card. This balance is replenished with a certain amount. If the subscriber does not need an additional card, he is asked to close it and withdraw the money to his bank account. To withdraw funds, subscribers are asked for passport and bank card details, which are used to steal funds from victims. Andrey Biychuk, director of the "Zashchitnik" product line at MTS, warned users about these plans in a conversation with TASS.
