Turkish court arrests Russian woman who abandoned child
A girl gave birth to a child in an airport toilet and left the child there alone.
A Turkish court has ordered the arrest of 18-year-old Russian woman Ekaterina Burnaskina for leaving her newborn baby unattended in a bathroom at Antalya airport. At the court hearing, the young woman said she did not know she was pregnant.
The child was found by cleaning staff in a disabled room at the airport. Police found that just 12 minutes earlier, Ekaterina had left him in the room and headed to passport control to fly to Moscow. Soon after, she was detained by law enforcement.
According to the Russian Consulate General in Antalya, the baby was taken to a medical facility where he and his mother are receiving the necessary support. The child's health is stable, there is no reason to worry.
Lawyer Leonid Isaev warned that Ekaterina could face up to a year of criminal liability if she were handed over to Russian law enforcement agencies. He pointed out that her actions could fall under Article 125 of the Criminal Code, "dangerous." In addition, there is a high probability that the abandoned child will be deprived of parental rights.
