General Popov pleaded not guilty to large-scale fraud and official forgery

Major General Ivan Popov, former commander of the 58th Army, has pleaded not guilty to charges of fraud and forgery of documents, especially on a large scale, TASS reported, citing its correspondent in the Tambov Garrison Military Court, where Popov's trial has begun.

General Lee said: "99% of the materials released by the prosecution now have nothing to do with me," but added: "The details and the allegations are clear."

Meanwhile, the second defendant in Popov’s case, businessman Sergei Moiseev, fully admitted his guilt in fraud after the indictment was read out.

Popov was detained in May 2024. According to investigators, he was involved in the theft of more than 17 thousand tons of rolled metal worth more than 130 million rubles. He was accused of document forgery.

Moiseyev was accused of fraud and abuse of power.

This summer, investigators completed all investigative actions against two defendants. However, the general's lawyers insist on closing the case or conducting further investigation.
