Why did the prosecution request an unprecedentedly long sentence for Olga Mirimskaya?

Experts interviewed by Business FM were unable to find a logical explanation for the harsh attitude of the prosecutor's office, which demanded 20 years in prison and a fine of 500 million rubles for Olga Mirimskaya.

Prosecutors sought an unusually long prison sentence for Olga Mirimskaya, the founder of a Russian food company and former chairwoman of BKF Bank, on two counts of bribery and three counts of attempted bribery. In addition to the 20-year sentence, prosecutors sought a fine of 500 million rubles, the maximum amount possible in the case.

According to the prosecutor's office, Olga Mirimskaya bribed former Moscow Region investigator Yuri Nosov in 2016 to falsify the case against Nikolai Smirnov, her former common-law husband and co-owner of the Zolotaya Korona payment system. Nosov was in charge of the case. Smirnov was accused of kidnapping Mirimskaya's daughter. The girl's father, surrogate mother, and three other defendants in the case were put on the wanted list. The case was eventually closed due to lack of evidence of a crime, and Mirimskaya's daughter was returned.

However, according to the prosecution, Mirimskaya bought two cars from investigator Nosov, who allegedly falsified the case against Smirnov. That is, a three-year-old Honda-CR-V worth 1.25 million rubles and a Mitsubishi Outlander worth 2 million rubles. The first car was registered in the name of Nosov's wife, the second - in the name of his father.

The second episode is dedicated to the previous period. Mirimskaya is accused of attempting to bribe the management of the Presnensky Court of Moscow between 2014 and 2016 ($500,000 and $550,000) in exchange for decisions in her favor in a property division dispute with her former lover. - Her husband, former Yukos top manager Alexey Golubovich. In March 2023, restaurateur Ivan Kibalchich, who promised to "resolve the issue" with the judges, was sentenced to three years in prison for stealing $550,000 from Mirimskaya.

Mirimskaya was also accused of trying to pay $700,000 to a judge of the 9th Arbitration Court, who overturned the decision that Golubovich's architect had received a multimillion-dollar mansion in the center of Moscow. However, as the prosecution pointed out, the brokers could not "come to an agreement," and Mirimskaya's $700,000 was returned. In other words, according to investigators, two counts of giving a bribe and three counts of failure to pay a bribe are equivalent to 20 years in prison and a fine of $500 million. It is noteworthy that the court demanded 13 years in prison and a fine of 111 million rubles for investigator Nosov, who, according to the prosecutor, took away the car.

Please use it for reference only. One of the most high-profile corruption cases in Russia concerned the former governor of Sakhalin, Alexander Khoroshavin, who was accused of receiving a bribe, not giving one. In the second criminal case alone, there were 17 episodes in the criminal group, and the amount of bribes exceeded 100 million rubles. For all this, Khoroshavin received 15 years. And the same fine of 500 million was imposed. Fedor Trusov, managing partner of the law firm Sokolov, Trusov and Partners, says:

Olga Mirimskaya is currently in pretrial detention center No. 6. Human rights activist Alexander Khurudzhi said that this is a women's prison in Pechatniki, which has long needed reconstruction.

The prosecutor's office sought 20 years in prison and a fine of 550 million won for former investigator Marat Tambiev, but this was for accepting a bribe of 7.3 billion rubles, which is a record in the history of the country. And he got 16 years. Scorpio maniac Viktor Mokhov was sentenced to 16 years and 10 months in prison for the kidnapping and rape of two girls, whom he kept in a bunker on the territory of his house for 3.5 years.

Olga Mirimskaya does not admit guilt. Her former common-law husband Nikolai Smirnov and her former husband Alexei Golubovich did not comment on the situation.
