German airline pays heavy price for refusing to transport Jews
German airline Lufthansa has been fined €4 million for refusing to serve a group of passengers, including Jews. According to NBC News, the U.S. Department of Transportation made the decision after receiving 40 formal complaints from passengers.
The incident occurred in Frankfurt am Main in May 2022, when 128 people dressed in traditional Jewish clothing attempted to board a flight from New York to Budapest. Airline staff mistook them for an organized group, but it later emerged that many of them did not know each other. The decision drew criticism and led to one of the largest fines ever issued by the U.S. Department of Transportation for discrimination.
Earlier it became known that Emirates passengers will no longer be able to take pagers and walkie-talkies on board. Transportation in hand luggage or checked baggage is prohibited. The device will be confiscated by Dubai police.
