Preliminary cause of Mi-8 crash in Kamchatka revealed

Bad weather in the mountains and poor preparation of the crew for flights in such conditions led to the Mi-8 helicopter crash in Kamchatka on August 31. The reason for this was revealed in the report of the Interstate Aviation Commission (IAC), TASS reports.

The documents also show that the cloud cover was low at the time of the crash. CCTV footage from Yelizovo Airport, located 30 km from where the plane crashed into the mountain, shows the mountain completely shrouded in fog.

According to the report, the helicopter commander did not have clearance for instrument flights. It also cites data that all recent Vityaz-Aero helicopter crashes were caused by errors in difficult weather conditions.

The helicopter crashed in Kamchatka on August 31. The Mi-8 was heading to the village of Nikolaevka in the Yelizovsky District. 22 people on board did not survive.
