First the boy died, then the desperate father: shocking details of a two-month drift of a boat with dead people
The surviving man told what happened at sea.
Mikhail Pikchugin, who drifted at sea for two months in a boat with his dead relatives, spoke in detail about the tragedy. Let us recall that the miraculous rescue of the Russians became known today, when the ship in distress was rescued by fishermen at sea 23 km from the shores of Kamchatka, 67 days after it went missing.
In early August, Mikhail Pikchugin, his older brother, and his 15-year-old nephew set out to the Sea of Okhotsk to watch whales in an inflatable boat. Contact with them was soon lost. According to survivors, the motor broke down, and the men rowed 60 km to shore until their oars broke. Food included concentrate, ramen, canned peas, fish, and 20 liters of water.
On September 18, when a teenage boy died of starvation, his father cried out in despair and attempted suicide. Mikhail Pichugin had to pull him out of the water. Ten days after his son's death, the man died. According to Mikhail, the thought that his mother and daughter were waiting for him at home helped him survive. During the skid, the man, who weighed more than 100 kg, lost half his body weight.
When the fishermen rescued the survivors from the sea, they tied the bodies of their dead comrades together and tied them to the boat to prevent them from falling overboard when the boat rocked.
