Former Vice-Governor of Leningrad Region Moskvin Sentenced to Four Years in Prison
He was accused of receiving a bribe of 12.6 million rubles for sponsoring a businessman who testified against officials.
A St. Petersburg court sentenced former deputy governor of the Leningrad region Mikhail Moskvin to four years in a maximum security penal colony, TASS reports.
Prosecutors had sought an eight-year sentence for the former government official.
According to investigators, Moskvin received 12.6 million rubles with the sponsorship of Daniil Fedichev, the director of a company that built facilities in the Leningrad Region. According to 47news, it was Fedichev who testified against Moskvin.
Fedichev is currently a defendant in a criminal case for abuse of power, seeking 20 million rubles in damages, and the trial is ongoing in the Petrogradsky Court of St. Petersburg.
Moskvin pleaded guilty and signed a pre-trial cooperation agreement. In his final words, he asked for life imprisonment.
