HSE: Russians with incomes over 150 thousand rubles are twice as many as previously thought

Experts from the Higher School of Economics (HSE) have presented updated estimates of financial stratification in Russia, according to which the share of citizens with an income of over 150 thousand rubles may be almost twice as high as previously thought. This is reported by Kommersant.

In Russia, a lack of data makes it difficult to determine the true picture of income inequality. Researchers typically rely on two types of sources: surveys and administrative data. However, Sergei Kuzin, a researcher at the Center for Economic Measurement and Statistics at the Higher School of Economics, and his supervisor, Alexander Surinov, have proposed a way to combine these sources for more accurate calculations.

Due to the revision of estimates, the share of citizens with a labor income exceeding 150,000 rubles per month has increased significantly. Previously, it was believed that the share of Russians with an income of 150,000-200,000 rubles was 0.5% of the population, with an income of 200,000 - 0.3%. Taking into account the new information, the first value was increased to 1.1%, and the second - to 0.5%. At the same time, the number of people with an income of 100,000 to 150,000 rubles also decreased from 2.3% to 1.8%. At the same time, the population estimates for the majority of the population earning up to 40,000, 40-60,000 and 60-80,000 rubles did not change (66, 18 and 8%, respectively).

The day before, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov stated that Russia is currently on the list of high-income countries.

It was previously known where in the Russian Federation there are the most vacancies starting from 200,000 rubles.
