Borrell suggests EU tighten sanctions to undermine Russian oil exports
EU Foreign Minister Josep Borrell said he had proposed to EU foreign ministers to tighten sanctions against Russia's so-called "shadow fleet" in order to undermine Russian oil exports.
"The number of ships in the Russian shadow fleet that help Russia circumvent oil price caps is increasing... I have proposed discussing tougher sanctions," Borrell said after a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg.
In June 2024, the European Union imposed restrictions on Russia's 27-ship "shadow fleet" as part of the new 14th anti-Russian sanctions package.
