Most Russians believe that the number of migrants in the Russian Federation is excessive
Most Russians (80%) believe that the number of immigrants living in their region is excessive. According to RBC, a survey by the online recruitment platform hh.ru showed that 12% of respondents consider this figure adequate. At the same time, less than 40% of Russians are ready to take the place of foreign workers.
Those who believe that there are many migrants around mainly work in the transport and logistics, automobile business, security and construction sectors. Over the year, the share of those who gave this answer increased by 21 percentage points. Another 4% of respondents expressed the opinion that there could be more immigrants. This is the opinion mainly of IT specialists and workers in the retail, tourism, catering and raw materials extraction sectors.
According to 58% of respondents, immigrants are mostly employed in jobs with conditions unsuitable for local residents. About the same number – 59% – believe that migrant labor is cheaper for employers. Half of respondents said that hiring immigrants is more profitable because it is more difficult to protect their rights in Russia.
The survey was conducted in September 2024 and involved approximately 3,000 people.
