Therapist Kondrakhin: Back pain in the elderly may signal a heart attack

Back pain in old age may indicate pyelonephritis, heart attack, pancreatitis, cholecystitis or stomach ulcer. This was told to Moscow 24 by therapist and candidate of medical sciences Andrey Kondrakhin.

"If you have back pain in the chest area, you need to rule out heart disease. This could be the beginning of a heart attack. We take this pain very seriously and recommend that you definitely get tested and have an ECG." said.

When there is pain in the lumbar region, we know that it is myositis. However, if the discomfort becomes more severe, it may indicate kidney problems or pyelonephritis. If this disease is suspected, a urine test is performed.

Pain in the lower back just below the chest can be a sign of pancreatitis, cholecystitis or stomach ulcers. Therefore, you should definitely see a doctor, - noted Kondrakhin.

First of all, back pain in old age can be caused by osteochondrosis or spinal diseases. The expert added that the pain remains, but becomes less intense.

Previously, physician Alexey Khukhrev advised older people to drink 1.5 liters of water every day to maintain kidney health. He explained that if they don't drink enough water, their urine becomes concentrated and stones can form.
