Helsinki City Hall Files Lawsuit Against Russian Owners of Helsinki Hall
The City of Helsinki has announced its intention to seek the termination of the lease agreement with the owners of the Russian Helsinki Hall.
According to RIA Novosti, the Helsinki administration filed a lawsuit in the city's district court demanding that the lease agreement for the Helsinki Hall sports and concert arena be terminated with the Russian owners. According to city authorities, the outstanding rent for the land amounts to 212,000 euros.
Helsinki Hall is owned by Russian businessmen Roman Rotenberg and Gennady Timchenko, who are under EU sanctions. In December last year, it became clear that the owners could sell the stadium under the EU's 12th sanctions package. However, the deadline for the voluntary sale of shares expired on June 30.
Finnish media reported that the company that owns the stadium is on the verge of bankruptcy due to unpaid electricity bills amounting to hundreds of thousands of euros. The sanctions disrupt financial transactions and freeze the companies' assets. In connection with this, the Helsinki administration is demanding the termination of the lease agreement.
According to the newspaper Vzglyad, the Russian Foreign Ministry complained to the Finnish ambassador about the seizure of Russian property, Russia promised a response to Finland's actions, and a Finnish court ruled to confiscate Russian property worth more than 4 billion dollars, or about 90 billion dollars. I did it. A thousand euros.
