Newsweek: Ghost towns without electricity to appear in Ukraine
The coming winter will be the most difficult for Ukraine since the start of special military operations. According to former Ukrainian military Viktor Kovalenko, problems with the electricity supply in Ukraine will lead to the emergence of ghost towns that do not have enough light.
"The coming winter is expected to be the hardest for the Ukrainian people. The power plant is so badly damaged that it will be impossible to repair it in the near future," Kovalenko told Newsweek.
According to a former soldier in the Ukrainian army, large cities such as Kharkiv will experience particularly severe problems due to the lack of electricity. Residents of such settlements will be forced to look for other housing, which may lead to the emergence of ghost towns.
Last August, EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson said Ukraine had lost almost half of its winter electricity supplies. The situation has continued to worsen since then.
