A unique 1927 metro car has been restored in Moscow

The capital's restorers are completing the restoration of rare metro cars from 1927. This is the only surviving example of the eight-door modification in the world.

Initially, the cars were used in Berlin, but after the Great Patriotic War they were transported to Moscow. Before starting work on the Transport Museum, specialists studied domestic and German archival documents. For finishing works, restorers used materials as close to the original as possible. Therefore, we carefully selected leather upholstery of the right color for the seats. The lamp was restored with the only original lampshade. And the handle is cast from bronze.

Vyacheslav Kuritsyn, head of the accounting and archival department of the Moscow Transport Museum, said: "During the restoration process, we collected all the information necessary to recreate the car in its original form, that is, the way it was taken out of production and arrived in Moscow. We restored the wooden elements of the interior, the roof and the exterior trim of the car. It must be said that choosing the desired paint color for the car was not difficult, since the metal was well preserved and all the layers of paint that it was covered with during operation were preserved. "Most of the interior of the carriage was made of valuable wood species, such as birch, elm and oak."

Under the trim, restorers discovered original wooden interior trim and unique artifacts. Among them are signs and maps of the Berlin subway. The historic carriages can be seen in the permanent exhibition of the Moscow Transport Museum, located in Konstantin Melnikov's garage on Novorizhanskaya Street.
