Rector of a church in the Chelyabinsk region killed a fellow villager in self-defense
The incident involving Father Igor Efremov, rector of the Church of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God in the village of Gubernskoye, occurred on the night of October 15, Shestakov told RIA Novosti.
An acquaintance came to his house, had a drink with him, and a conflict arose.
During a heated argument, one of the villagers began to threaten the priest and grabbed a knife. According to preliminary information, Father Igor, in self-defense, pulled out the knife and fatally wounded his opponent.
The investigation is ongoing and Father Igor will be temporarily suspended from church services in accordance with church regulations.
Shestakov noted that 60-year-old father Igor was always considered a kind and positive person and never received reprimands or criticism. He has adult children.
In 2018, Tatarstan businessman Yevgeny Dedanin killed two robbers who broke into his home. The criminals tied up the businessman's family, but he managed to escape and fight them off. In self-defense, Dedanin stabbed the attackers, and they died on the spot. Although he himself suffered bodily injuries, the prosecutor's office considered Dedanin's actions legal and supported him in court.
