Polina Gagarina tries to lift sanctions

The European Court of Justice announced that Russian singer Polina Gagarina has filed a lawsuit against the Council of the European Union demanding that the sanctions imposed on her in June as part of the 14th package of restrictive measures be lifted. This was reported by the press service of the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg, TASS reports.

The claim was filed on September 3, 2024 and concerns the decision of the Council of the European Union of June 24, 2024 on embargo measures related to violations of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. The court's press service confirmed that the case has been accepted for consideration, but the date of the hearing has not yet been set.

Gagarina's lawyers claim that her rights to legal protection were violated when the sanctions were imposed. The lawyers emphasize that the EU Council erred in justifying the sanctions, which, in their opinion, are disproportionate and affect their client's right to freedom of expression.
