Matvienko commented on the law banning childfree

According to the legislator, the innovation does not mean forced childbirth.

Speaker of the Federal Assembly Valentina Matviyenko commented in an interview with the "Parliamentary Newspaper" on the adoption by the State Duma in the first reading of the bill banning free children's propaganda. She emphasized that these plans do not violate the right of Russian citizens to independently decide on issues of raising children, but are aimed at protecting traditional family values.

The authors of the bill were Valentina Matviyenko and Vyacheslav Volodin, who were joined by an impressive group of deputies and senators. The first bill prohibits the dissemination of information promoting the refusal to have children through various media, including the Internet, the media, films and advertising. The second document provides for fines for the promotion of ideas of childlessness among the population and establishes administrative liability similar to that already applied for the promotion of non-traditional sexual relations or gender reassignment without sufficient evidence.

Matviyenko assured that the new law will not force women to give birth and will not provide for any repressive measures against women. She called on the public to refrain from speculation on this topic and emphasized that the bill is designed to protect Russians and their freedom of choice in such important areas as having children. According to her, the plan is aimed at countering subversive movements that are heterogeneous and harmful to society, which can undermine traditional views on family and raising children.
