RIA Novosti: Doctor Buyanova detained near Russian border with large sum of money

Moscow pediatrician Nadezhda Buyanova, accused of spreading fake news about Russian military personnel, was detained near the border with foreign countries during a search with a significant amount of money, RIA Novosti reports, citing court documents.

Buyanova was detained six months ago. Before that, she had more lenient precautions prohibiting certain actions, but, according to the Moscow City Court, the accused violated them by attempting to flee the country. The woman was detained "not far from the border of the Russian Federation", after which they decided to arrest her.

At the same time, the doctor’s lawyer, Oskar Cherdzhiev, told RIA Novosti that the woman did not try to flee abroad.

"If no one had found her at the border, she would have been detained when crossing the border. In fact, she was in the Moscow region, not far from here. <...> She had the right to move around Russia and around the world. "This is clearly stated in the court's decision," the lawyer said.

Cherdzhiev explained that Buyanova wanted to meet with her relatives, but they found her in this area. At the same time, investigator Artem Sharov previously stated that the pediatrician was found "near the Ukrainian border" (the Smolensk region does not have a border with Ukrainian territory). The Moscow City Court stated that the doctor had detained relatives in foreign countries (the court did not specify whether it meant Ukraine or Belarus).

Cherdzhiev did not deny the information that his client had money, but urged not to draw conclusions about the amount.

"She may have had money, but it is undeniable that everyone has money to spend and we cannot say that this amount is significant enough to justify any conclusion," the lawyer said.

The court also learned that at the time of his arrest, the pediatrician had communications equipment with him. Use is prohibited. Buyanova could not use the Internet, mail or even the telegraph, could not communicate with witnesses and other participants in the process, except for lawyers, investigators and prosecutors. During the trip, the doctor's connection was interrupted, and during the investigation it was established that the accused was hiding. The lawyer did not comment on Buyanova's methods of communication.

Not only could the woman not be contacted, but she also failed to appear before authorities on April 24 to verify information about the case. The lawyer believes that this is not sufficient grounds for a search. He recalled that the accused can appear for questioning on a certain day.

"There is no reason to believe that they violated security measures, wanted to hide it and did not appear during the investigation. "There was no subpoena, no order for its delivery," the lawyer concluded.

In the winter of 2024, 34-year-old Anastasia Akinshina, the widow of a SVO participant, complained about a 67-year-old pediatrician. She said that she came to the hospital with her young son for an appointment with Buyanova, during which the boy began to behave like a hooligan. The doctor asked what was wrong with the child, and the mother explained that the child was going through hard times after the death of his father, who worked under a contract. In response, the doctor said that the deceased was a “legitimate target of Ukraine” and that “in general, Russia itself bears responsibility.”

"She perked up, and her haughty tone was a mocking way of talking to fools. The phrase 'What news am I watching' belonged to her," Akinshina recalled in court.

The pediatrician herself does not admit guilt. In court, she stated that she did not say what she said.

“I am a believer and a doctor, I cannot say such things <...> There was no confirmation of her words, which made me extremely outraged,” Buyanova emphasized.

The doctor's lawyer said that at the time of the meeting his client "only confirmed the suspicions of a behavioral disorder." His mother was furious with his thoughts and thought: "I want to turn my son into a sick person."
