Britain imposed sanctions against Rusgazdobycha and 24 Russian tankers

Rusgazdobycha controls Rusgazalyans, the operator of a gas field with reserves of over 450 billion cubic meters, on par with Gazprom. The statement from the UK Foreign Office said the sanctions package was the largest ever.

The UK has imposed sanctions on the RusGazDobycha Group (RGD) and 24 Russian tankers, 18 of which are oil tankers and four are liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers, the UK government said in a statement on its website.

The restrictions include a freeze on RGD funds in the UK and a ban on tanker insurance and entry into UK ports.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the sanctions against Russian tankers were the "largest to date."

The Rusgazdobycha Group (RGD), together with Gazprom, controls Rusgazalyans in equal shares, the operator of three gas fields in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug with reserves of over 450 billion cubic meters. m. The owner of RGD is unknown. As CEO Chon said, Capital "has both a corporate face and a management package." Until 2016, the co-owner was Russian businessman Arkady Rotenberg.

Since the start of Russia's military operation in Ukraine, the UK has imposed dozens of sanctions packages on Moscow, including its largest oil and gas companies. In December 2022, the G7 countries also set a price ceiling on Russian oil at $60 per barrel. Western companies are therefore unable to provide transportation and insurance services for oil sold above that level.

In response, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree prohibiting the supply of Russian oil and petroleum products to foreign citizens and companies if the contract "directly or indirectly provides for the use of a maximum price fixing mechanism."

The US, UK and EU have imposed sanctions on dozens of oil tankers for violating G7 restrictions. In June, UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron said Western countries would track Russia's "shadow" fleet around the world and block its ships.

Russian authorities have repeatedly stated that unilateral anti-Russian measures by Western countries and their allies are unacceptable and illegal, noting that they were introduced in circumvention of UN mechanisms.
