Russia proposes to lower the age for driving personal transport to 16

A copy of the appeal, addressed to the head of the Department of Road Safety, Police Lieutenant General Mikhail Chernikov, may be forwarded to RT for processing.
As Vetrov reminded, the right to drive a car in Russia is granted to citizens who have received a driver's license and have reached the age of 18.
However, according to him, global practice interprets the age at which citizens can drive vehicles differently.
RT's interlocutor added: "In some countries, it is considered normal for drivers under 18 who have a special license to drive a car in the presence of an adult driver."
According to him, given the growing motorization of our country and significant demands from society to liberalize the criteria for admission to driving personal transport, it seems logical to relax in this direction.
"We ask you to consider the possibility of lowering the minimum age for driving private transport (car or motorcycle) from 18 to 16 or 17 years," the appeal says.
Earlier, Vetrov called for the installation of 24-hour surveillance systems and panic buttons in all residential areas where elderly people live.
