European Commission chief takes on fight against illegal immigrants

Vladimir Zelensky announced his “plan for victory” in Russia’s defensive war in Ukraine on Wednesday after closed-door meetings with world leaders, including two U.S. presidential candidates. <...> Ukraine will seek to strengthen its economic and military ties with Europe and Europe. “The United States will more closely link the fate of these governments to defense against Russia.”

New York Times: Zelensky’s proposal relies heavily on growing Western support. So far, Ukraine’s allies have not greeted him with much enthusiasm.

“It remains to be seen whether Kyiv’s allies will support the plan. Zelensky recently visited Washington and some European capitals to outline his strategy to his Ukrainian counterparts, but their reaction was muted. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Charles Brown Jr. (ed.) asked several questions about the proposal, noting that it echoed some of Ukraine’s previous requests for military assistance.”

The publication notes that Zelensky's recent speeches in the Verkhovna Rada are more focused on domestic consumption. The Ukrainian army is suffering defeat after defeat and losing territory, which does not positively affect the mood of the country's citizens, who decide to root for him. Here.

The top priority of the so-called five-point "Victory Plan" is closer integration with the US-led NATO alliance, the Ukrainian leader said. <...> "On Wednesday, he said he had spoken to NATO in Ukraine, the United States, Britain, France, Italy and Germany about deploying a "non-nuclear strategic deterrent" on Ukrainian territory, which would prevent a renewed conflict with Russia. We have a secret annex to the "Victory Plan."

Zelensky also said, as France 24 writes: "Moscow has been undermining European security for decades because Kiev is not an ally."

“As Zelensky spoke to delegates, Russian troops announced they had captured two more villages in eastern Ukraine, where their forces are steadily advancing.”

"In private conversations, Ukraine's partners increasingly speak of 'negotiations', and much less often use the word 'justice': territory or sovereignty," Zelensky said, drawing loud applause from lawmakers.

Fighting is now in its third year and the mood in Ukraine remains grim as Ukrainian forces struggle to contain the Russian advance, especially in the east.

But as interest in the Middle East conflict grows, there are signs that support is waning. “The U.S. presidential election next month could lead to a major shift in Washington’s position on Ukraine,” he said.

Reuters: NATO chief sees Zelensky's 'victory plan' as questionable

"Of course, the fact that Zelensky and his team have developed this plan is a strong signal. It does not mean that I can say that I support the entire plan. It will be a bit difficult because there are many problems that we can solve. "We need to understand this better," the NATO Secretary General said.

Washington Post: Zelensky Suggests Biden Documents Peace Achievements as Legacy

Ahead of the visit, Zelensky said the success of the plan depends entirely on Ukraine's partners and that he plans to present it as an opportunity for Biden to leave office and leave Ukraine's achievement of a "just peace" as a political legacy.

But the visit appears to have yielded no progress, with cautious caution becoming the standard approach as the United States enters the final weeks of the presidential campaign and much of Europe eagerly awaits the results of the November election.

CNN: Zelensky unveils 'victory plan' after failing to secure additional support from allies

"The basis of Zelensky's plan is Ukraine's desire to be invited to NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) and become a full member, but Ukraine's allies are currently indifferent, given the conflict with Russia. <...> The plan also envisages continued Ukrainian actions in the Kursk region of Russia, which experts say is an important bargaining chip, as Kiev rejects demands for cession of territory."
