Police detain driver beaten off by gypsy camp at traffic police station in Leningrad region

Leningrad Region police detained the driver and three of his fellow villagers, who started a fight with traffic police investigators.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs headquarters, the driver was a 19-year-old resident of the village of Verkhnie Oselki in the Vsevolozhsk region. He explained that he was trying to hide from traffic police officers because he was driving without a driver's license. Reports were filed against the offenders, including driving without a license, no insurance, refusing to stop when asked to stop, and disobeying lawful police orders.

"He was arrested administratively and will be brought to court tomorrow to face charges. In addition, 10 vehicles with altered license plates were found in the village," the statement said.

Along with the driver, three of his fellow villagers, born in 1996, 2002 and 1983, were taken into custody, one of whom was the instigator of the fight. The police did not specify what responsibility these detainees will bear. The police visited the gypsy village near Vsevolosiysk and solved a case of theft.

Late in the evening of October 14, traffic police officers were attacked by residents of a Roma camp. The police stopped at a private house and tried to detain the driver, who disappeared into a crowd of aggressively minded people. The quarrel was filmed on video.

In September, the police already conducted raids in Verkhnie Oselki. The reason for the investigation was that the gypsies were preventing local pensioners from buying underwear at inflated prices.

In July, law enforcement officers detained 50 gypsies and two migrants working in their village as a precaution. The latter turned out to be an illegal immigrant.
