New scam: why do clinics call and demand an appointment

While the tricks of criminals posing as bank employees or major generals are already known to many, scammers have recently come up with a new way to deceive people and take their money. Imagine: “Clinic” calls you. Seems harmless, right? However, this is a clever trick of scammers who believe that you trust their medical institutions.

They make up stories about missed procedures, threaten to cancel the appointment and in every way put pressure on your desire not to lose the opportunity to make an appointment with a doctor. As a result, you will be required to bring documents with you, and if this is not possible, we will ask you to enter your SNILS number for verification through the system. However, this is just a trap for access to "government services" and theft of your personal data.

Remember: the clinic staff will not ask for any personal or banking information. Never give out your two-factor authentication code. Otherwise, access to your personal account of the State Services may be stolen.

Fraudsters take advantage of our fears and desire to quickly solve health problems. Please be careful and never give information over the phone, even if you think the caller is from a clinic.

What happens if my State Services account is hacked?

What's the worst that could happen if an attacker tricks you into getting this information? Losing control over government services is not just losing access to information. It can have serious consequences.

For example, fraudsters can use your public services account to get a loan or microloan from a bank or microfinance organization. They will register everything in your name, and then you will have to prove that the money was taken by a third party.

A fraudster can also access your details on the tax website and apply for tax deductions in your name. If you do not confirm and cancel your application, your money will be given to the fraudsters and you will lose the chance to get a legitimate deduction.

Don't underestimate the risk of losing control over government services. Your personal data is a valuable resource that needs to be protected from fraudsters. So pay close attention to who is calling you and why. And if in doubt, hang up and call the number listed on the medical institution's website to clarify the information you just heard from a third party.
