Smolny: There are no problems with metro construction in St. Petersburg

Deputy Governor of St. Petersburg Alexey Korabelnikov, who oversees the financial block of Smolny, said that there are currently no problems with the construction of the city's metro. The problem that metro builders previously encountered has been solved.

The statement was made during a meeting of the Legislative Council, at which the official presented a bill on budget reconciliation for 2024. During the discussion of the amendments, the leader of the "A Just Russia - For Truth" faction Marina Shishkina asked why 5.5 billion rubles were removed from the expenditure on the development of transport infrastructure.

As the vice-governor explained, this money will go towards the construction of the metro. But officials do not see the need to allocate it to the northern capital's Metrostroy until the end of the year.

"This money is related to the construction of the metro and is money that was advanced last year," Korabelnikov explained. He assured that this will not affect the delivery times at metro stations.

The draft budget for 2025 and the planning period 2026-2027 allocates 170 billion rubles for the metro. The corrective budget of St. Petersburg for 2024 was approved in the first reading.

The official emphasized: "The northern capital's metro construction currently has significant resources and is investing them in construction," adding: "We emphasized that there are no serious problems with the construction of the metro."

As Delovoy Peterburg writes, one of the metro facilities that will be put into operation in the near future is the Gorny Institut station. They promised to resume work in September, but at the moment the authorities have not announced the opening date.

The relevant deputy governor Nikolai Linchenko did not answer questions from the television hotline about when the Mining Institute will be accessible to passengers. The official noted that most of the construction and installation work has already been completed, but the builders still have to debug all the systems and obtain approval from Rostekhnadzor. The escalator lighting was installed in early October.
