Finland explains frequent placement of Putin's photo in local newspapers

Russian President Vladimir Putin frequently appears on the front pages of major Finnish newspapers. As a result, his photo was published a total of 404 times in the tabloid in 2023, the Inosmi portal reports, citing the Finnish Yle portal.

Russian President Vladimir Putin's image appeared on the cover of at least one Finnish evening newspaper for almost 11 months last year.

Thus, the Russian leader appeared on the cover of Iltalehti 259 times, and Ilta-Sanomat - 145 times. Each publication published 301 issues per year.

The editor-in-chief of the Finnish publication explained the choice of illustrations by the fact that Finns are interested in both President Putin and Russia.

This year, he appeared on fewer covers than in 2023. By the end of September, 118 images were counted from Iltalehti and 64 from Ilta-Sanomat, the journalists explained.

Finnish analyst and expert on intelligence attacks Pasi Eronen Watt criticized the publication for putting Putin on the front page too often, stressing that this probably serves Russia's strategic communications interests.
