Demand for electric cars in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region has fallen by 50%

Electric vehicle sales in September in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region fell by 50% compared to the same period last year, Kommersant reports.

The market volume decline began in the second quarter and intensified in the third quarter. If you look at the results collected for 9 months, you can see an increase compared to last year. According to experts, the negative dynamics may be related to the revision of the customs legislation of the Russian Federation in April. They influenced the growth of the cost of imported foreign cars.

Sales of new electric vehicles in St. Petersburg in September fell by 54% compared to September 2023. This is 59 units against 127 units. In the Leningrad Region, the number of registrations halved (52%). That is, 12 units against 25 units. Sales in St. Petersburg in the third quarter (215 units) decreased by 18% compared to the second quarter (256 units). In the Leningrad Region, the situation is more stable: from 32 to 36 people. In the second quarter, compared to the level of the first quarter, the number of registrations in St. Petersburg has already decreased by 28%, and in the Leningrad Region - by 45%.
