Taxi fares in Moscow tripled due to snowfall
The cost of a taxi ride in Moscow increased threefold in the evening due to bad weather, TASS reports.
The Yandex Go service sent out a notification to users that there are currently more people wanting to use a taxi than there are available cars.
Earlier, bad weather forced electric scooter and electric bicycle rental services Whoosh, MTS Urent and Yandex Go to temporarily suspend operations in Moscow. The companies promised that travel would be possible again when the temperature rises and the snow melts on the streets.
Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorology Center, reported that although September in Moscow was the warmest in the entire observation period, winter is approaching. According to his forecast, frosts of up to -25 degrees Celsius are expected in the capital region from January to February. Forecasters also noted that 70% of the country's territory is already covered in snow.
Earlier, forecasters reported that after rain and snow, Indian summer would come to Moscow.
