WP has learned of Hamas' plan to carry out a terrorist attack in Israel similar to the September 11 attacks in the United States.
The plan failed because the militants did not know exactly how to destroy the building.
The Palestinian radical movement Hamas planned to carry out a terrorist attack in Israel similar to the attack on the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001 in the United States. This was reported by the Washington Post, citing documents captured by the Israeli military.
According to the newspaper, Hamas planned to carry out a terrorist attack in Tel Aviv several years ago. Among the proposed targets were the Moshe Aviv Tower, Israel's second-tallest skyscraper, and the Azrieli Center complex, consisting of three skyscrapers, a movie theater, a shopping mall, and a train station. The militants did not carry out their plan because they could not figure out how to destroy the building.
"If these towers are somehow destroyed, it would create an unprecedented crisis for the enemy, similar to the crisis at the World Trade Center towers in New York," the document says.
The confiscated Israeli military material also includes Hamas ideas on using horse-drawn carts to attack Israel, converting fishing boats into high-speed warships and modifying vehicles to run on rails. WP said it could not confirm the authenticity of the document.
