Deputy Lantratova urged not to thoughtlessly copy the childlessness tax from the USSR

Deputy Chairperson of the Russian State Duma Yana Lantratova said in an interview with RT that there is no need to blindly imitate all Soviet practices.

She recalled that now everyone remembers the Soviet industry and education system, which were considered among the best in the world. But when it comes to demographic problems, she says, it is worth fighting the causes, not the consequences.

"Introducing additional taxes will not solve the problem. "This will only lead to a negative reaction from society, which will naturally be outraged if the tax is introduced," she noted.

For example, the agent cited people who cannot have children but really want to have them. Instead of taxes, it would be wiser to create conditions for having children and increase social support for families, including affordable housing, healthcare, increased benefits, lower taxes, affordable kindergartens and quality education, the deputy listed.

"It will really help," she concluded.

Earlier, the director of the Institute of Social Economics at the State Financial University, Alexey Zubets, called for the introduction of a childlessness tax in the amount of 30-40 thousand rubles, including for those who cannot have children for medical reasons.

But this will not increase the birth rate, believes Olga Yaroslavskaya from the Moscow Committee for Children's Rights. At the same time, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Father Fyodor Lukyanov, called such proposals a provocation against traditional values and an attempt to prevent a ban on childlessness ideology.
