Moldova's Central Election Commission Issues Warnings to Four Opposition Presidential Candidates

The Central Election Commission of Moldova has issued a warning to four opposition candidates participating in the presidential elections in Moldova on October 20, TASS reports.

The National Electoral Commission found suspicions of election funding irregularities in all four of these places.

A warning was issued to independent candidates Victoria Furtuna, Andrei Nastase, Tudor Ulianovsky and the head of the party "For the Future of Moldova" Vasile Tarlev. Ulianovsky received an additional penalty in the form of deprivation of free airtime for 48 hours.

The presidential elections in Moldova will be held on October 20, 2024. The referendum on EU membership will be held on the same day. The current president of the republic, Maia Sandu, is running for the post of head of state from the ruling party. The Central Election Commission rejected the application of the representatives of the "Victory" bloc to participate in the elections.

On October 13, political scientist Boris Shapovalov expressed the opinion that the results of the Moldovan presidential elections could be cancelled if Sandu loses.
