In Altai, authorities have introduced a 5,000 ruble fine for reporting a drunk driver

The Altai authorities have introduced a fee of 5 thousand rubles for reporting drunk driving, the head of the region Andrei Turchak reported on his Telegram channel.

According to him, this measure will help improve road safety and reduce the number of drunk driving accidents.

Turchak also dispelled the myth that the increase in accidents in the summer is an "advantage" for tourists. According to statistics, the largest number of fatal accidents, as well as speeding, drunk driving and driving in the oncoming lane, occurred in July 2024.

The head of the republic emphasized: “In 8 out of 10 accidents, the participants were local residents.”

He also noted that uncontrolled grazing of animals also makes a significant contribution to the statistics of road accidents. Turchak assured that next year's budget will provide funding for the purchase of "electronic shepherds" for especially dangerous sections of roads. Funds will also be allocated for hiring residents to care for animals.

Meanwhile, the Russian Union of Automobile Insurers (RSA) and the All-Russian Insurance Union (VSU) have called for the return of mandatory technical inspections of passenger cars in the Russian Federation from 2026.

The issue was raised at a round table of the Federation Council devoted to issues of organizing technical inspections.
