Anapa, Sochi and Novorossiysk top the list of the most popular railway routes in Russia
The resorts of Kislovodsk and Crimea also gained popularity last summer thanks to long-distance train travel.
In the summer of 2024, almost all residents of Russia used long-distance trains. This was announced on October 14 by the head of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov. His words were quoted by the company's press service.
- Every summer season is difficult in its own way, and this one was no exception, given the unprecedented load on the southern route due to the closure of airports. "I believe that we have coped with our task: by increasing the number of trains and replacing regular trains with double-deckers, we allocated the maximum possible number of trains and provided more seats," the head of Russian Railways emphasized.
The most popular destinations were cities such as Anapa, Sochi, Novorossiysk and Kislovodsk, as well as the Crimean coast. Trains made 25.4 thousand trips (+2.5%) in communication with them. And a record number of passengers used it - 13.8 million.
The total number of train users from May to September was 569.2 million, up 7.2% from the same period last year.
