On October 14, Orthodox Christians celebrate the Feast of the Protection of the Holy Mother of God. A Sib.fm photographer attended a service at the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Novosibirsk.

This holiday celebrates the appearance of the Mother of God to the people and is connected with the historical events of the siege of Constantinople. At this time, people gathered in the church to pray, and one of the worshipers, seeing the Mother of God praying for the people, took the veil from her head and covered everyone present, indicating his intercession.

According to Archpriest of the Kainsk Diocese Dmitry Babkin, the holiday is one of the most revered, although at first glance it has nothing to do with Russia. In Siberia, there is a church dedicated to the Protection of the Holy Mother of God. During the holiday, we feel a special attachment to the Mother of God, who is perceived as a caring mother, protecting from evil and troubles. Father Dmitry noted that this has a deep meaning of respect for the holiday.

The priest also emphasized that Orthodox Christians in Russia have always had a desire to receive the care of the Mother of God. Believers are invited to help others receive grace for themselves on this day. The high priest explained that good deeds bring about the mercy of the Lord.

He added that selfish desires without action are incompatible with Christian values.
