Governors of Tambov and Rostov regions resigned within an hour of each other: Why and what will happen next
On Monday afternoon, within an hour of each other, the governors of Tambov and Rostov announced that they were leaving their posts.
The first is 47-year-old Maxim Egorov, who was appointed acting president by Vladimir Putin three years ago. The governor of Tambov Oblast, elected in the regional leadership elections two years ago, told the TG TV channel: "This region has become my home," and "we have done a lot" promoting national projects.
"The most important thing in Tambov Oblast is the people who helped make all this happen. Today, the country's leadership sets me other tasks at the federal level," said Gorky native Yegorov. He added with a smile. "I am a true Tambov resident and I am glad that the "Tambov Wolves" are now my comrades."
"Wherever I work in the future, supporting and developing my beloved Rostov region will always be a priority," he told the TG TV channel, thanking "the team of residents of the Don region." "This is an important project for the region." He also said: "Thank you for the constructive criticism." And he will carry out his duties until a new agent is appointed.
- This is a planned story. According to 67-year-old Golubev, this is a fatigue factor. He is one of the most experienced and effective Russian governors. If he still wanted to stay in this job, he would. But 14 years is a really long time for such a place and such a territory. There is real success. The region is developing economically. And since the creation of the Northern Military District, this region has played an important role as a large-scale logistics base supplying goods to our organizations. Everything was at a very high level there. I know this from people who saw it. Golubev provided invaluable assistance, helping to methodically build all this in 2014 and in February-March 2022. I think he will go to the Federation Council.
The case of Maxim Egorov. He had already worked in the Tyumen region, then as Vladimir Yakushev's deputy in the Ministry of Construction. Yakushev became the first deputy chairman of the Federal Assembly and acting secretary of the General Assembly of United Russia. Egorov will probably take a serious position in one of these structures.
There is currently no requirement for new appointees to the positions of Regional Directors to be "out of region".
