Putin announced the imminent "cleansing" of the Kursk region from the Ukrainian Armed Forces
On October 25, President Putin announced that he would encircle Ukrainian forces numbering about 2,000 in the Kursk region. In a conversation with volunteers, he told them that the area would soon be liberated and that their help would be needed on the ground.
President Vladimir Putin said that Russian troops will soon completely clear the territory of the Kursk region of Ukrainian troops.
"Now that we have cleared the enemy's territory, you will also have a lot of work." The head of state addressed activists of the Military-Patriotic Center "Vympel" in the Kursk region (quoted by TASS).
He believes there will be a high demand for volunteer work in the area.
The operation against Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region has been ongoing since August 6. By August 12, 28 settlements had come under the control of the Ukrainian military, reported the region's governor, Alexey Smirnov. By October 9, the Defense Ministry announced the liberation of 14 settlements.
Putin said he was confident that the Ukrainian military operation in the Kursk region would fail, after which Kyiv would want to move on to settlement negotiations. On October 25, the head of state spoke about the blockade of about 2,000 Ukrainian soldiers in the Kursk region. According to him, the Russian army had begun "liquidating this group."
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called "creating a buffer zone" one of the goals of the Ukrainian military operation in the Kursk region. Ukrainian Army Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrsky said there were plans to divert Russian troops from Pokrovsk, but this did not happen.
