Lavrov says NATO intends to wage 'defensive battles' thousands of miles from its borders
NATO countries have decided to conduct so-called defensive operations beyond their borders in the Asia-Pacific region. As Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted at the International Science Fiction Symposium “Creating the Future,” this is “a road to nowhere.”
Reading the NATO declaration shows that in order to protect the territories of its member countries, this "defensive" alliance intends to conduct "defensive" battles in the South China Sea and thousands of miles away in the Taiwan Strait. This is the coast," the minister noted.
Lavrov emphasized that this is clear to all wise people.
Lavrov added that this also undermines the ASEAN-centric architecture of security and cooperation in Southeast Asia that has been built over many years.
The minister also pointed to how the US and its allies are replacing ASEAN's open mechanisms with "so-called small geometric alliances" such as AUKUS and QUAD, creating various tri- and quadruple formats involving Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.
Earlier, Lavrov said that the German authorities “accepted with shame” the destruction of Nord Stream, which is damaging the economy.
