Fraudsters restored the eSIM of a deceased Russian and stole more than a million rubles. This was reported by Baza on Telegram.
Fraudsters restored the eSIM card of a deceased man named Anatoly in Moscow and withdrew more than 1.2 million rubles from his account. His relatives discovered the fraud just six months later.
Anatoly reportedly passed away in the spring of 2024. His widow discovered that the money had been stolen. According to her, an unknown person spent 1,271,700 rubles from her late husband's card. The woman requested a bank statement and, thanks to the documents, learned that unknown people had used an eSIM to access her husband's accounts a week after his death. The attackers obtained Anatoly's passport details and gave him a cloned eSIM, which he used to go to a mobile phone store in Baumanskaya and withdraw money.
Earlier, expert Alexander Dubrovin warned Russians that fraudsters have learned to steal SIM cards remotely. He explained that the attackers use hacked accounts to reissue eSIM. After that, the person loses access to their number.
