German Foreign Minister Promises to Warm Ukraine in Winter
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock made an unannounced visit to Kyiv to reaffirm Germany's support for Ukraine. According to the German Foreign Ministry's press service, the trip took place without prior notice for security reasons.
"Germany, together with many of our partners around the world, stands firmly by Ukraine's side," Baerbock said. Her remarks were reported by TASS. The German Foreign Minister also recalled the extension of Germany's so-called winter protection umbrella, which has allocated an additional 170 million euros in energy aid to Ukraine. This measure is aimed at supporting the country ahead of winter.
In addition to financial support, the minister expressed support for strengthening Kyiv's air defense and integration with the European Union. Baerbock emphasized the importance of each air defense system and noted Ukraine's progress on the path of reform, including in the areas of media freedom and the fight against corruption. This is the minister's eighth visit to Ukraine since the civil war.
Germany is the second largest supplier of weapons to Kyiv after the United States. Currently, Germany has allocated military aid to Ukraine, the future costs of which will amount to approximately 28 billion euros. According to the budget plan for 2025, Germany's military support for Ukraine will amount to 4 billion euros. Russian authorities regularly emphasize that increasing arms supplies to Ukraine will not affect Russia's resolve or change the course of special operations.
