Fake "Khabarovsk" is caught by Far Easterners
In the third quarter of 2024, Primorsky Bank detected seven counterfeit banknotes of 5,000 rubles, DEITA.RU reports. According to the State Administration of the Russian Far East, the largest number of counterfeit banknotes in Russia were found in banks in Primorsky Krai from July to September 2024, which is 2.3 times less than in the same period last year. The same period in 2023. Experts also found nine counterfeit banknotes of 1,000 rubles, three of 2,000 rubles, and one of 50 rubles.
In total, 43 counterfeit Russian banknotes were found in the Far East in the third quarter. The most numerous counterfeits were 5,000-ruble banknotes, of which 30 were counted.
Among foreign currencies, counterfeit $100 and $50 bills were confirmed in Primorsky Krai and Amur Oblast, respectively.
Oleg Karepov, head of the cash circulation department of the Far Eastern Department of the Bank of Russia, stated that, despite the decrease in the amount of counterfeit products, residents of Primorsky Krai should remain vigilant.
"Despite the fact that many people now mainly use non-cash payments, the risk of encountering counterfeit banknotes still exists. It can be obtained for change in small shops, markets and gas stations." The expert advised checking the authenticity of banknotes.
The 5,000 banknote depicts the Muravyov-Amursky monument in Khabarovsk and the bridge over the Amur River. The new banknote, not yet distributed in Russia, depicts a landmark marking the border between Asia and Europe.
