Epidemiologist Novoselov from Novosibirsk told whether Siberians are threatened by malaria

Epidemiologist Yakov Novoselov spoke with the Gorsite portal about the threat of malaria spreading in the Novosibirsk region.

According to doctors, if there is no natural source of infection in the area, an outbreak cannot occur, even if it is brought in from another country.

Epidemiologists are sure that if thousands of mosquitoes are brought into the Novosibirsk Region and released into the wild, they will not have time to reproduce and will soon die. However, this does not guarantee that serious epidemics will not occur, since new viruses are constantly appearing and mutating.

As Novoselov explained, flu viruses have been mutating every year for hundreds of years, but so far they do not pose a serious threat. However, the coronavirus that mutated into COVID-19 caused a very serious and highly contagious disease. As a result, the world is facing a pandemic, doctors say.

Let us recall that in Novosibirsk, epidemiologist Novoselov assessed the likelihood of Lassa fever appearing in the Russian Federation.
