Sandu wins Moldovan presidential election

In the second, voter turnout exceeded 54%. At the same time, according to the Central Election Commission, the majority of voters in Moldova voted for Stoianoglo. The advantage in favor of the incumbent president was ensured by the votes of citizens living abroad.

Maia Sandu, Moldova's incumbent leader, wins the presidential election, clearing 99.8% of the ballots. According to the National Electoral Commission, she received 55.4% of the votes. Her opponent, former Prosecutor General Alexandru Stoianoglo, received 44.5%.

Sandu's victory came with about 80% of the votes cast at polling stations abroad. At the same time, according to the Central Election Commission, Alexandru Stoianoglo overtook the incumbent head of state, gaining just over 51% of the votes. His advantage over Sandu was especially large in Gagauzia (97%) and Transnistria (79%).
