The Ministry of Health warned about the danger of advanced diathesis in children

October 18 is World Candy Day. This holiday is celebrated by those with a sweet tooth, but many are wary of these delicacies, fearing diathesis. Svetlana Makarova, Deputy Director of the National Center for Medical Research of Children's Health of the Russian Ministry of Health, told Life.ru about the reasons for its appearance.

The popular word "constitution" is actually no longer used in modern medicine, despite its frequent use in everyday life. Experts associate "diathesis" with reactions to certain foods, especially sweets, which cause various skin symptoms in children. First of all, we are talking about atopic dermatitis, eczema and other types of reactions that can occur in babies.

Experts say that heredity plays an important role in the predisposition to such reactions. Children who suffer from allergies also have more allergic reactions. The onset of atopic dermatitis can be dryness, redness, itching and flaking of the skin on the cheeks and buttocks, as well as small rashes or blisters that burst and form crusts.

In addition to the genetic structure of the skin, allergies to food proteins (mainly milk and chicken egg proteins) play a major role in the development of atopic dermatitis in young children.

The danger is that if left untreated, early manifestations of allergy can lead to multiple allergies due to damage to the skin barrier and the development of chronic allergic diseases. And constant itching and inflammation of the skin can cause secondary infection of the damaged area.

The main goals of treatment are to remove irritants and care for the skin. Parents are advised to exclude allergenic foods from the child’s diet, keep the room clean and humid, and use moisturizers. If your symptoms are more severe, you may need to consult an allergist, who can prescribe special anti-inflammatory drugs.
