General Popov revealed whether he has an addiction to sports betting

Major General Ivan Popov, accused of fraud and forgery, said that a forensic examination did not reveal any addictions in him, including online betting on sports results, TASS reported.
According to him, this investigation was conducted as part of the preliminary investigation of the criminal case before the detention and arrest. Popov's lawyer, Sergei Buinovsky, stated that the accusations against his client are "baseless and absurd" and based on "guesses, assumptions and fantasies of investigators."
On October 16, the prosecutor's office announced the charges against Popov at a session of the Tambov Garrison Military Court. According to the state prosecutor's findings, the cost of the theft of metal structures exceeds 114.5 million rubles. It was organized by Lieutenant General Oleg Tsokov. He recruited Popov to carry out the criminal plan, knowing about his "passion for betting on the results of sporting events", and also bribed his wife with a car worth about 4 million rubles, prosecutors believe. According to the investigation, Popov agreed to the theft, and 1.3 million rubles were transferred to his card in several cases.
Popov said that he borrowed this money from Tsokov. The defense insists on the general's innocence and points out that he also lent money to Chokov.
The main defendant in this case is Tsokov. He died during a military operation in Ukraine and was posthumously awarded the title Hero of Russia. As a result, the investigation against him was closed. The third defendant is businessman Sergei Moiseyev.
Popov was arrested in May last year, but was placed under house arrest in July. The lawsuit against him is related to the theft of metal structures intended for the construction of defensive structures in the Zaporizhia region. Moiseyev also admitted his guilt.
